2016: Week 31 Assignments
Intro to Sequential Art
Objective: Students will
create an abstract picture using one of the following color schemes:
Monochromatic (one color), Analogous (colors next to each other on the color
wheel), or Complementary (colors opposite on the color wheel).
Materials: markers/crayons,
pencils, paint, paper, construction paper
Procedure: Similar in style
to the artwork of Piet Mondrian, students will create an abstract picture using
one of the following color schemes: Monochromatic (one color), Analogous

opposite on the color wheel).
Assessment: A=follows ALL instructions (or
does more) with great craftsmanshipB=follows MOST instructions with good

Symmetrical Rugs
Objective: Students will use
construction paper to create their own symmetrical rugs like those woven by the
Navajo.
Materials: examples of
Navajo Rugs, pencils, construction paper, glue
Procedure: We will look at
and discuss different Navajo Rugs, what their significance and importance
is/are. I will draw /cut/glue designs and patterns using simple shapes and
simple lines. The students can copy or create their own. The rugs must show an
understanding of symmetry.
Assessment: A=follows ALL instructions (or
does more) with great craftsmanshipB=follows MOST instructions with good
craftsmanship C=follows
SOME instructions with good craftsmanship D=does
little work/ poor effort F=does

will create their own character
Materials: construction
paper, scissors, glue, crayons, Book:” Boys of Steel”
Procedure: After
watching me read “Magic Tree” I will show students how to make a colorful
tortoise with construction paper. First they will trace a tortoise body and
head. Students will glue paper tiles to reconstruct the wounded tortoise’s
shell.

will print a South Western Native American pattern like the ones found in the
story book.
Materials: Prints/stamps/rollers,
paper, paint, Book: “Coyote”
Procedure: After
reading “Coyote,” students will go back to their seat to print their pattern
using three different colors and three different patterns.
