4th and 5th Grade Assignment #29
Patriotic Design pt2
Objective: Students will design an abstract
work of art inspired by the American Flag.
Materials: Paper, pencils, rulers, paint
Procedure: During the next two weeks,
the students will design an abstract work of art inspired by the American Flag.
Building off the lessons of the last few assignments, the students’ designs
must have 13 lines, 50 stars, and use the colors red, white, and blue.
Assessment: A=follows ALL
instructions (or does more) with great craftsmanship B=follows MOST instructions with good craftsmanship C=follows SOME instructions with good
craftsmanship D=does little work/
poor effort F=does NO work

African Savanna
Objective: Students will draw a pattern
on a piece of paper.
Materials: colored pencils, paper,
teacher example.
Procedure: I will demonstrate how to
draw a Kinte Pattern with the help of the class. They will then go back to their
seats to draw their pattern, and color it in. Each students artwork will be
taped together to form a colorful class example of kinte cloth.

abstract picture using one of the following color schemes: Monochromatic (one
color), Analogous (colors next to each other on the color wheel), or
Complementary (colors opposite on the color wheel).
Materials: markers/crayons, pencils,
paint, paper, construction paper
Procedure: Similar in style to the
artwork of Piet Mondrian, students will create an abstract picture using one of
