For our
first lesson of the school year, we will start with the basics: the seven Elements of design.
Objective: Students will learn about the
Elements of design by drawing an example of each

3) Monet
Reflections
Objective: Students will draw their last
landscape inspired by Monet and the Impressionists.
Materials: pencils and paper, chalk pastels,
Impressionist prints.
Procedure: First, students will find the
Horizon line on the Impressionist landscapes. Next we will focus on the
reflections found in the paintings. We will draw our own landscape at the
BOTTOM of a piece of construction paper. We will color them in with chalk
pastels. We glue our pictures to a bigger piece of paper, fold and rub;
creating a “reflection” on our bigger piece of paper.

10) Draw Window
(still life #2)
Objective: Students will be making a mixed
media picture of a holiday feast. Step one will be to paint a window featuring
a tree during the fall.
Materials: paint brushes, construction
paper, glue
Procedure: following a demonstration,
students will paint a tree in the fall. They will then glue the tiny picture of
the tree to paper that will serve as their window frame. Their last step will
be to glue their window to a bigger piece of paper.

different trees on their circle.

Procedure: Following a demonstration,
students will paint an “X” across their circle. Each point of the “X” will
become a tree trunk. Each of their four trees will represent a season (full
dark green leave=summer, bare=winter, orange leaves= fall, light green for
spring)

Objective: Students will make an
illustration of an undersea picture.
Materials: paper, pencils, makers,
crayons, paint
Procedure: During this two week
assignment students will make an illustration of an undersea picture. On their
first assignment students will draw and trace their undersea picture. Students
must draw at least five different types of marine life, two coral shelves, and
at least two different types of undersea plants. Students are expected to color
their drawing with crayons on week two. Once they have done this, students will
paint the entire piece of paper blue.
Assessment: A=follows ALL
instructions (or does more) with great craftsmanship B=follows MOST instructions with good craftsmanship C=follows SOME instructions with good
