Objective: Students will trace basic shapes and color them using a specific
color family (warm/cool).

Procedure: the students will trace 3 circles, 3 squares, 3 triangles, and 3
rectangles and color them in.
Assessment: The traced shapes should look like shapes. The colors should be
contained within the borders of the shapes.

5) Cut-out/Glue
Letters and Shirts(Self-Portraits part2)
Objective: Students take their pattern
painting form last week and use scissors to cut out the first letter of their
names. Students will also trace and cut out a pattern for a t-shirt on which to
glue their letters.
Materials: construction paper, pencils,
tracers, scissors and glue
Procedure: following a demonstration, students cut/ paste/ assemble their

7) Finish
Self-Portraits(Self-Portraits part4)
Objective: students will finish their
self-portraits
Materials: construction paper, pencils,
tracers, scissors and glue
Procedure: Following a demonstration,
students will finish cutting out their portraits, trace and cut out their
hands, and glue everything together in the appropriate places.
After
completing their self-portraits, students will come down to the floor. We will
look at a print of Leonardo’s Mona Lisa and compare/contrast it with our self-portraits.
Then we will read “Katie and the Mona Lisa.”

Reindeer
Objective: Students
will make a reindeer from construction paper.
Materials: paper,
crayons, glue, tracers,
Procedure: After
reading a book about reindeer, students will be shown how to make their
construction paper reindeer one step at a time. Step One: is to trace the head
on paper and draw a face. Step Two: is to fold the tan construction paper in
half, trace their hands once, and cut out two simultaneously. These will be the
antlers. Step Three: Glue everything together.

create landscapes based on the different environments ion Africa.
Materials: construction paper, scissors,
glue, colored pencils
Procedure: After reading “Bringing the
Rain to Kapiti Plain” and briefly discussing the habitats and environments of
Africa students will create landscapes using various media. During the Kapiti
Plain unit, students will first draw their African savannah with animals below
the horizon line. Trees and sun/clouds will be above the horizon line. On the
second week, students will paint all the grass below the horizon line and the
sky above the horizon line. During the Sahara Unit, students will draw palm
trees crossing the horizon line, sand below, and pyramids and sun/clouds above.
On the second week, students will paint all the sand below the horizon line and
the sky above the horizon line. During week three of the assignment, students
will print three camels using camel stamps. Continuing a print project,
students will cover a single sheet of construction paper with leaf stamps to
simulate a jungle. Students will finish their jungle landscapes by drawing a
jungle animal that they will cut and paste on their jungle picture.
