4th and 5th Grade Assignment #16 -19

Draw United States Map 
Objective: Following the illustration of their Florida map, students will combine their efforts to create a map of the United States of America.
Materials: states, reference and books, pencils, pens, colored pencils, water color paints.
Procedure: During the next four class periods, the students will learn about cartography by creating a map of the United States of America. Each class (4th and 5th) will work on a different map for that particular day (six day rotation=six different maps) Students will be assigned a state for that period. Depending on the size of the state the amount of children in that class, all students for that day will by working with partners (some form different classes) until every state is assigned and finished. Students will draw significant landmarks on every state. They will then trace, and color with colored pencils. The final step on the last day will be painting the background of the state with water color paints.
Assessment: A=follows ALL instructions (or does more) with great craftsmanship B=follows MOST instructions with good craftsmanship C=follows SOME instructions with good craftsmanship D=does little work/ poor effort F=does NO work
